Pineapple / The pineapple, originally from South America, held a particular fascination for Europeans as fresh ones seldom survived the journey across the Atlantic, and the fruit was proving impossible to cultivate in Europe. Louis XV's gardeners at Versailles were successful in growing the pineapple in a hothouse, where it was grown up until the revolution. Given its rarity and sweetness, pineapples were only served as dessert at the end of the finest dinners, and as such it came to be known as a symbol of hospitality in the decorative arts. This cleanly Neoclassical Louis XVI-style collection celebrates this tradition with bold stylized pineapples on elegant bases, perfectly suited for a guest bath or anywhere a little sweetness is needed.
